A house before it was ever a homestay
Ocean Roof is set right behind the forest — not on the coastline itself. The sea isn't the view from every window here; it reveals itself from two of the rooms and, best of all, from the rooftop dining lounge above the house, where the forest is at your back and the water is out ahead.
The rooms are wood-panelled and simply furnished, the way a family home is furnished: for comfort, not for show. Most days start the same way — chai carried up to the roof, the forest still waking up behind you.
A family, not a franchise
Ocean Roof is run by a local family — born and brought up right here in these islands, not investors who found the address on a map.
The house is looked after by a mother of two who teaches during the day and keeps everything else running the rest of it — from the kitchen to the linen, very little escapes her notice. Her husband holds a government job and handles much of what happens behind the scenes, from repairs to logistics to the odd emergency. Between them they've raised two sons, now grown, and the same instinct for looking after family has simply extended outward to guests.
Stay a few days and you'll likely meet the whole family — quick with directions, happy to talk food, and just as happy to let you be.

Ocean Roof is in Nice Colony, Dudhline — a short drive from Port Blair's main sights. Distances below are straight-line from the property; actual drive time will run a little longer depending on the road and traffic.

Living like a local, for a few days
We're happy to point you toward the beaches that aren't on the tour buses, the fishermen who'll take you out at dawn, and the one place in town that makes fish curry the way it's meant to be made. Ask us when you arrive — it's easier in person than on a page.
